Our Narrative

PRESERVING THE SACRED LEGACY OF HANDLOOM

"We didn't set out to start a saree brand. We set out to protect a thousand-year-old art form from disappearing into history."

Some journeys begin with educational degrees and detailed business plans. Mine began with a simple love for sarees and a deep respect for the artisans who have kept India’s handloom traditions alive for generations.

I am Sushma Prasad, the founder of Motifss. Like many women, I spent years managing my home and family, believing that my dreams could wait. Over time, I realized that every woman has the strength to create something meaningful—not only for herself but also for society. That realization encouraged me to begin a journey that would connect my passion with a larger purpose.

In 2024, I started my journey with a few pieces of Banarasi sarees. As I learned more about India’s textile heritage, I discovered that many traditional weaving techniques and artisan communities were gradually losing recognition in today’s fast-changing world. Skilled weavers were struggling, and authentic handcrafted sarees were becoming difficult for customers to identify and access.

India is a country where every state has its own unique weaving tradition. However, people often know only a few famous sarees and remain unaware of the beauty and craftsmanship found across different regions. Many buyers are unsure about authenticity and do not know where to purchase genuine handloom sarees. This gap inspired me to build a trusted platform that brings together authentic handcrafted sarees from across India.

Motifss was created with the vision of making India’s diverse handloom heritage easily accessible in one place. From Chanderi and Maheshwari to Banarasi, Kanjeevaram, Ikkat, Bandhani, and many more, every saree reflects the skill, culture, and history of its region. Our purpose is not just to sell sarees but to preserve craftsmanship, support artisan families, and encourage people to choose authentic handloom over mass-produced alternatives.

I also believe that choosing handloom is a step towards protecting our environment. Natural fibres, traditional weaving techniques, and handcrafted production create a much smaller environmental footprint than synthetic, factory-made fabrics. Every handloom saree purchased becomes a conscious choice that supports sustainability while preserving India’s timeless weaving traditions.

Today, Motifss is more than a saree brand. It is a movement to reconnect people with India’s rich textile heritage. Every customer who chooses Motifss becomes a part of this mission and helps skilled artisans continue their craft with dignity.

My journey has taught me that dreams do not have an expiry date. Whether you are a homemaker, a working professional, or someone searching for a new beginning, it is never too late to take the first step. My vision is to make Motifss a globally recognized destination for authentic Indian handloom sarees while ensuring that the stories, skills, and heritage of our weavers continue to inspire future generations with authenticity, trust, pride, excellence, passion, purpose, and dedication.

Our Core Philosophy

The Three Pillars of Motifss

01

Uncompromising Purity

We use only 100% genuine mulberry and tussar silks certified with Silk Mark, combined with real tested gold and silver metallic zari threads. No polyester blends, no machine shortcuts.

02

Ethical Weaving Ecosystem

By maintaining direct-to-artisan partnerships, we guarantee fair-wage standards that double weaver earnings relative to wholesale brokers. We fund rural healthcare and loom restorations directly.

03

Preserving Handloom Art

We archive and commission traditional heritage patterns, safeguarding ancient weaving techniques from Varanasi, Kanchipuram, and Pochampally to prevent the loss of historical loom files.
